Malaria Consortium is recruiting for a MEAL Specialist to join our team in the UK, London office.

As a member of Malaria Consortium’s Global Technical Team, the MEAL Specialist will provide technical assistance and guidance to country and multi-country programmes through technical input (study design, statistical and analytical support), as well as M&E support such as strengthening  of M&E standards and quality of Malaria Consortium’s activities across all programme areas. In addition, he/she will drive the learning agenda working closely with the Head of External Relations and the Head of M&E. The position holder will provide an oversight on new project design, support M&E components including logframe development and provide technical assistance on key results measurement work including large scale surveys. An important aspect of the role is to build the organisational capacity in accountability and learning as part of his/her routine M&E work. This would include strengthening processes to identify lessons, best practices and explore systematic documentation of internal learning; building Malaria Consortium’s internal MEAL capacity by supporting capacity building initiates as identified through the M&E Community of Practice (CoP) and External Relations (ER) functions. He/she will support and contribute to research study designs, oversee data management, and lead data analyses where needed. The position holder will contribute to evidence base and support peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, conferences and presentations. In addition, the MEAL Specialist will contribute to improvement of approaches and methodologies in M&E, in particular the support and documentation of piloting a new data collection/data management and data visualisation platform with the aim to evaluate its usefulness as an internal M&E solution to address Malaria Consortium’s M&E needs. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Postgraduate degree in epidemiology, statistics or public health with a focus on M&E/ MEAL   

  • Experience working in M&E with excellent understanding of MEAL approaches 

  • Significant experience in study design and implementation of large-scale project M&E systems 

  • Familiarity with public sector Health Management Information Systems  in developing countries (e.g. DHIS2 and/or global data collection platforms) 

  • Experience in setting up standards of quality as well as internal quality assurance mechanisms 

  • Excellent statistical analysis skills including familiarity with software such as STATA, R or Statgraphics 

  • Excellent writing and presentation skills  

  • Expert competency level in reviewing, understanding and synthesising data for sharing with wider audiences 

  • Practical organisational skills with the ability to manage a fluctuating workload, prioritise and re-prioritise when necessary and meet tight deadlines 

  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK be considered for this post 

  • Able to travel internationally for up to two weeks at a time (often at short notice)
